About The Elk Mountain Nursery

Elk Mountain Home -- Catalog -- Selected Books -- Ordering Information

Elk Mountain Nursery specializes in plants native to the Eastern United States. In addition to our native collection, we also have a number of introduced species, many of which have naturalized in the East. This season we have also included a number of rare shrubs and trees from Asia and Europe. Many of these are hard to find and all are superb additions to the landscape.

Our nursery is located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The long, cool growing season; coupled with a short, but intense winter; makes Asheville an ideal site for a nursery serving the Eastern United States. The nursery is in USDA Zone 6, allowing us to grow a wide variety of species adapted to both cooler and warmer areas.

We have continued the tradition of producing a "minimalist" web site. There are no graphics or advanced HTML to slow downloads or confuse your computer. There are lots of plant photos but they are optional. Our catalog should work well with virtually any web brower or computer.

We take great pride in providing vigorous, healthy plants. Our shipping methods are the finest in the business. And we do our best to make every customer a repeat customer!

Nomenclature
Primary nomenclature authorities used:

Manual of the Vascular Flora of the Carolinas by Radford, Ahles and Bell

Hortus Third by the Staff of the Bailey Hortorium

If you disagree with our nomenclature or if we simply made a blatant error, please let us know...
"If you have remarked errors in me, your superior wisdom must pardon them. Who errs not while perambulating the domain of nature? Who can observe everything with accuracy? Correct me as a friend, and I as a friend will requite with kindness."-Linnaeus

Take a little time to browse through the Catalog - new photographs are added often - and don't forget to set a bookmark for the Elk Mountain Nursery.
