Amethyst Falls is a beautiful selection of our native American Wisteria found in the upstate of South Carolina, recently introduced by Head-Lee Nursery. Amethyst Falls flowers on 4-6" racemes which are an intense blue and are lightly fragrant. It blooms about 3-4 weeks later than it's unruly Asian counterparts allowing it to flower after threat of frost.
Young plants of this Wisteria will flower the first year from cuttings. Profuse blooms in the Spring. Amethyst Falls will also repeat flower throughout the summer months. The plant can be induced to re-bloom as many as 5 times (in the South) in a single season. Since it flowers on new growth, it blooms heavily even when pruned during the dormant months. Amethyst Falls is a well behaved climber in the garden, growing at about a third of the rate of the rampant Asian species. All of these unique features make Amethyst Falls a perfect choice for the arbors and trellises in the home landscape.
Disease and insect resistant. Adaptable to all soil types.
Chosen as a "JC Raulston Arboretum Selection" and is said to have been a big hit at the Plantarium 2000 show in the Netherlands.
